Group Leader – Key Responsibilities & Expectations

Spiritual Leadership & Engagement

  • Encourage and support the campers in their faith journey, including leading group times and participating fully in worship sessions.
  • Pray for the campers and fellow staff before and during camp.

Camper Well-being & Safeguarding

  • Ensure the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of campers, including being aware of any safeguarding concerns and reporting them appropriately.
  • Be approachable and available to campers, creating a positive and inclusive environment.

Active Participation & Teamwork

  • Fully engage in all camp activities, including duties such as mealtimes, cleaning, and night duties.
  • Work collaboratively with other leaders and follow guidance from the camp admin team.

Responsibility & Organisation

  • Prepare thoroughly for camp, including planning group activities and being familiar with MCYC procedures.
  • Ensure campers maintain a clean and organised accommodation space.

Commitment & Conduct

  • Set a positive example through attitude, behaviour, and adherence to MCYC’s values and expectations.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, including morning prayer sessions.

Padre – Key Responsibilities & Expectations

Spiritual Leadership & Teaching

  • Padres are responsible for leading and delivering the spiritual program at camp, including preaching, teaching, and facilitating worship. They must ensure all content is biblically sound, relevant to young people, and aligned with MCYC’s mission.

Pastoral Care & Availability

  • Padres should be approachable and available to campers and leaders, offering spiritual guidance, prayer, and support throughout the week. They should foster an environment where young people feel comfortable exploring faith and asking questions.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Padres must collaborate with fellow padres, worship leaders, and the wider leadership team to plan and deliver sessions effectively. Clear communication with leaders and staff is essential to integrate the spiritual program into the overall camp schedule.

Preparation & Flexibility

  • Effective planning is crucial, including structuring sessions, preparing teaching materials, and ensuring logistical needs are met. Padres should also remain flexible, discerning and responding to the needs of the young people and the leading of the Holy Spirit.

Safeguarding & Follow-Up

  • Padres have a responsibility to safeguard young people spiritually, ensuring Scripture is handled with care and integrity. They should also take note of any significant faith decisions and ensure appropriate follow-up with home churches where necessary.
